That's what happened to me when my peepers beheld this stunner for the latest Card Concept challenge:
I'm guest designing with the Card Concept team for the month of May and it has been SO much fun!! When you are surrounded by talented people - like the design team of Card Concept - you can't help but to be inspired and put your best foot forward!
For this card, I started by gessoing a piece of heavy weight cardstock and then I scribbled on some Distress Crayons:
OOoooo messy!
As soon as I saw the scribbles, I knew I'd created a masterpiece and so I put my supplies away.
Just kidding! haha
In reality, I used my finger to smear the Distress Crayon and create a smoother look.
You heard me mention earlier that I gessoed the page before I applied the Distress Crayon.
Why?
I'm glad you asked!
Check out the difference between these two backgrounds. The one on the left has been gessoed and the one on the right just plain paper. You can see that the Distress Crayons don't look very smooth on the right side and it's picking up the texture of the cardstock.
So if you want a smooth, more blendable version of Distress Crayons, make sure to slap some gesso on the page first.
And now, back to the card:
Over the Distress Crayon background, I used some gold texture paste through a stencil. Next, I stamped the teacup from STAMPlorations Always Tea Time set and paired it with a sentiment from my Literary Caffeine-ations set. I colored the cup in with Spectrum Noir Markers.
This little shabby chic mixed media number made me oh-so-happy so I was DONE!
Thanks for popping by my blog to check out my card.
I'd love to see you play along at the Card Concept this month!
Go check out what the rest of the talented Design Team made HERE.
Your card is gorgeous... LOVE the gold texture paste and nice tip about the distress crayons... s your card supposed to be up on the card concept blog because I didn't see it there... although I am looking through sleepy eyes so it's possible it's me...

ReplyDeleteLOOOOVE serendipity. When everything dovetails into something you wanted to create anyway. And, oh boy, did it work here. You've really nailed the essence of the inspiration piece. Oh, and thank you for the gesso tip for the crayons...wasn't really tickled about the way they perform, but this will do the trick.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card - I love the vintage look!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! Great vintage look! I haven't distress crayons, but thanks for the info on gessoing before use them... I must remember your trick when I will buy them :D

ReplyDeleteYour card is fabulous, I love how you added wonderful layer upon layer and have such a fantastic masterpiece. I would so love to sit down and watch you work sometime...maybe a video in the future????
I'll see your beau-tea-full and raise you one GORGEOUS accolade! Seriously, Becca, this is a knockout! Your background textures/layers/colours are lovely, but it's that teacup that captures my heart. It reminds me of the pretty china teacups (I have three on display at our place) my grandmother used to serve hot cocoa to my sister and I, for breakfast...that, and 'toast' fingers (toast, spread with Beehive Syrup and cut into strips), plus one cheesy and 2 potato chips. My grandma had the definition of'spoil the grand-kids' down to an art *grin*! Thank you for the gorgeous card AND the memories sparked...
