WATERCOLOR ALL THE THINGSSSSS!!!
When I devised my Growing in Unity plan, the above statement was not a part of it. But then after two days of watercoloring with different mediums, I said "hey self! This could make a cool week-long exploratory series." My self agreed with my self and thus, the past week has been spent in splishy splashy bliss.
On the docket for today's watercolor medium: Ken Oliver Colorburst Crystals.
If you want to talk about creating gorgeous, vibrant, unexpected backgrounds or watercolored images, these Colorburst crystals are INSANE! My bloggy friend Lauren Bergold's instagram feed is all full of Colorburst examples and I finally had to break down and buy all the colors. No Ragrats!
Also, I wanted to play along with The City Crafter's latest challenge, which is to mimic one of these splashes as a background on your card.
Obviously, you can tell that I chose the green splatter for my design.
Here's how I made this background.
Step One:
Use a wet paintbrush and apply water around your stamped image.
P.S. this deer comes from Unity's Woodland Deer stamp set.
Be careful not to get the water inside of your image.

Step 2
Add a teeeeny bit of Ken Oliver Colorburst Crystals.
Seriously. A teeeeny bit. A little of these babies goes a LONG way.

Step 3
Cry a little bit, restamp your image and repeat steps one and two because you added too many crystals.

Step 4
Use a damp paintbrush to move around the color, carefully
Step 5:
Oooooh and aaah over your final creation.
So stunning without even trying!

I love how this little card turned out. It's CAS but packs a wallop of intensity. I also really like that it's appropriate for the fellas because I have SUCH a hard time not going all frilly on things.
If you're interested in getting some of your very own Color Burst Powders, Amazon has sets of them for a decent price. (ps - I use affiliate links to help support my blog)

Beautiful card. Love the humor. I would definitely need to do this multiple times because I would get the deer wet and put too much of the crystals on.
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous! I have Brushos rather than Colorbursts, but I think they're similar. Sorry, but I laughed at step 3 - although that would be me too! Congratulations on reaching 300 followers.
ReplyDeleteOk - fine, fine, fine. I'll put something ELSE on my wish list. Because I love it!

You'd have laughed at me the other day. I was working with some orange watercolor splatters, and got more on my arms and tee-shirt than I did on the paper! Your work with these color bursts is amazing!! Oh my goodness. CAS goodness, in fact! Beautiful greens behind that lovely deer. Well done you!! I think your card is just wonderful and if I didn't have to go buy a new phone tomorrow, I'd place an order. I'd love to try this. GREAT card. Bev

ReplyDeleteI do receive his Facebook posts. Your green background around your deer, is exquisite...
Great card.
Thanks bunches, Cindi
Wow- those crystals really are lovely and vibrant! Nice back drop for the sweet deer image.
ReplyDeleteGirl, you are amazingly brave to use those color bursts anywhere near that unmasked deer! If I tried that I'd be showing you a smurf deer! LOL Watercolor all the things has been my motto lately. Although I just got a load of new Lindy's sprays during their Labor Day Sale, so now I'll be spraying all the things probably! This card is positively gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous project again. I have this stamp already and a bunch of color bursts that I have yet to use (bad T.J.) but thanks so much for the inspiration. Maybe I'll brave enough to try this now?!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Macro shots give the effect when the first background is sharp and the background is blurred. That's what your card looks like. Great effect!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
