Mixed Media Floral Love Card - STAMPlorations Challenge

I've been on such a mixed media, shabby chic card kick lately and I'm totally loving it! It seems like I switch back and forth between genres and stay on that for awhile.

Since I love working in mixed media, I'm always happy when my brain decides to let me play around with textures again. Clean and simple cards make me smile when I'm done, but I don't quite find the same creative release. What's your favorite/most relaxing genre of card to make? I'd love to know!

This card was inspired by dual challenges. The first is the new STAMPlorations challenge. For this challenge, you can either use the sketch OR the theme OR both. And there's tons of prizes. And you can use whatever stamps/products you want. So why  not?

The second challenge was the Frilly and Funkie challenge Enjoy your Embossing.

I started this card by using a gorgeous vintage inspired paper from Bo Bunny and then I used the Foiled ARTplorations stencil

Next, I added a frame and some flowers. I aged the flowers by using some gelatos on the edges and wetting it with water.

I saw a really cool embossing technique over at the oh-so-talented Shirley Bampton's blog and I knew I wanted to give it a go.

Here's how it goes: Sprinkle on some embossing powder - you don't have to use embossing ink.

And then, instead of applying heat to the top, heat it from the backside.
Oooooo! Shiiiny!

It gives AMAZING texture. Maybe I'm the only one on earth who didn't know this was a thing, but I thought it was SO cool. Thanks Shirley!

I also embossed three of the butterflies from the Trendy Butterflies set, fussy cut them, and interspersed them amongst the flowers.

Lastly, I stamped a sentiment from The Birds and The Blooms set

Love, love, love how this one turned out! So shabby chic, and I'm obsessed with those burlap leaves!

I'm also going to send this over to:
Aud Sentiments - use a love sentiment
Time Out - Inspired by Words - Love is a flower you've got to let grow

Thanks for popping by and make sure you go check out what the rest of the design team has whipped up. I would love to see you play along!

  1. Love your frame and all the texture you got going on with this. Have you used the chunky embossing powder like this it flies around a bit but you get a great effect. :)

  6. I'm not shabby chic (or chic of any kind) at all and I'm obsessed with those burlap leaves, as well. Actually this whole card invokes a softer, gentler era...the one I like to read about in Jane Austen novels. Lovely.

  8. I hadn't seen this fab embossing tip, so you are not alone!! This cars is amazing, I love all this texture, I just want to touch the card. I really appreciate you showing us simple steps of how you made this as often tutorials lose me! Just one superb card! I have to say I just love CAS cards and get a real joy out of them. However I admire shabby chic and mixed media cards especially as I have not the patience or ability to make them. So pleased you shred with us at TO

  12. Hi Becca,
Thank you so much for the kind words on my blog! Your card is AMAZING! The texture with all of the embossing and those pretty burlap leaves makes me want to reach out and touch it. And all the dimension with the flowers and butterflies! It's sooooooo pretty! To answer your question about how I mail my cards.... I buy these 7x7x2" boxes ( they look like tiny pizza boxes) and they fit a 6x6 inch card perfectly. For smaller sizes I make my own boxes with light weight chipboard. Thanks so ,I have for sharing your lovely card with us at the Frilly and Funkie Challenge! I am your newest follower on your blog:-))
    Hugs,

  19. This turned out beautifully! I can see why you love those burlap leaves...they add so much texture and dimension to a card, yet they're not overpowering the rest of your design. That vintage paper is the perfect backdrop for all your elements too. Really a delightful card! I'm a big fan, and most comfortable making CAS or Clean and Layered cards. I blame working in a hospital for that, lol! Happy Sunday. Bev

  20. Hi, Becca! You used one of my favorite embossing techniques here when you sprinkled the loose powder on this very lovely card! This has such a soft vintage feel, but it's still very fresh and contemporary, which I love. The layering of elements is just gorgeous! Thanks for sharing it with us at the Frilly & Funkie enjoy your embossing challenge!
