The theme over at Crafty Gals Corner this week is: The great outdoors!
I don't want to say I'm a city girl, because that's probably the farthest thing from the truth, but I will say I am a creature of material comforts.
I actually grew up on a small hobby farm on 40 acres in Minnesota. In my adult life, however, I moved to the "big city" (read 50,000 people - yes... that's big to me) and I've stuck ever since. I enjoy riding bike, and rollerblading along the river paths, but camping? Count me out.
So when thinking about the great outdoors and going through the images over at Beccy's Place, I came across this image called Old Mailbox. And I just fell in love.
And I just feel at home.
As I was creating this card, those were the thoughts I had in my head. This is WHY I love crafting so much. You can really put a lot of yourself into a creation and your artwork can really express who you are as a person, even though nobody else may ever know it.
So that's my Great Outdoors story. Thanks for listening!
I'm going to enter my card into the following challenges:
Simon Says Stamp Monday: For the Love of Plants
Hiding in My Craft Room - Summer colors
Just Us Girls - Summer
Anywho - back to the challenge. How do you interpret the Great Outdoors? Come on over to Crafty Gals Corner and show us!

Great image, masterfully colored. Good grief, I love what you do with color. After reading your great outdoors story, I'm convinced we could be real pals. Camping is word that in NOT in my vocabulary. Done it, didn't like it, never going back. Cooking outdoors means the grill on our patio. Bathroom stuff needs a bathroom...duh. Not at all interested in sleeping on the ground...hurts to even think about it. That's MY story and I'm stickin' with it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely memory you shared with us that, in turn, sparked my memories of my grandparents' farm in Manitoba. I can picture the canopy of the tree lined road that we drive, that leads yard, and the 'competition' that would go on between my sister and I as to who would go out to open the gate. Sighhh... Your card: fabulous!

ReplyDeleteI grew up in the country also and we had such a mailbox but our road was a highway. This card is so sweet and full of memories-love it
ReplyDeleteYup. Understand perfectly. Grew up on 150 acres - Dad did lots of 'share farming' to make ends meet. Mum worked full time & we had cows, pigs, sheep, a BIG vege patch, fruit trees, a dam, lots of hills, old sheds to make into 'play houses'.....trees to climb and dirt roads to play on without getting run over!!!! BUUUUT......soooo 'with' you.......I would never live in the country now. Like my proximity to shops and transport and getting outta the house too much!! ANYWAYS.....your card is very evocative of an idealised country lifestyle that, it seems, becomes one's 'real' [???!!!} memory as the years go by. I hardly remember icy mornnings, scooting to the bus stop and standing on cow pats cos they were frozen, so didn't smell or break under your feet......LOL!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFabulous card and colouring Becca and lovely to hear the inspiration behind it too. Carol x
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely Becca. I can see this on an old country road-the red calling out to the mail man as he passes by. Fabulous coloring on this beautiful card. (and I HATE camping. Thank goodness my husband does not like it either!!)
