Among many things that the universe has deemed me to be less than proficient in, making cards that have fancy folds sits at the top of the list. Try as I might, I always do something to screw it up. This is why I am an ENGLISH major, people. So I don't have to measure things. I can't tell you just how big my scrap pile is because my motto is measure once, and when that fails just cut something somewhere, somehow.
So this week's challenge over at Crafty Gals Corner gave me a little bit of a stumparoo. The theme happens to be "Fancy Folds".
I also go to work with a great image from the Stamping Boutique called "Thoughts"
This girl just looks so pensive and gorgeous. She's got hair flying every which-a-way and I knew I wanted her to be the star of the show. So every fancy fold I came across just seemed to detract for her beauty. Eventually, I just decided to do what I do best (worst?): Make something up!
I have officially dubbed this folding technique the make-a-few-score-lines-somewhere-to-fulfill-the-challenge-brief fancy fold.
I colored up this fanciful girl and added some psychedelic, funky papers that make me feel as though I should be dancing around in a disco club in the 70s.
I also stamped a rather wistful saying in the bottom corner.
When you untie the ribbon and open this baby up, this is what you'll see:
Although it might not be in my wheelhouse, I actually really like how this turned out. It was really relaxing to color her in.
I'm also going to send this over to the following challenges;
Simon Says Stamp Monday- Anything Goes
Tuesday Throwdown - Anything Goes
Simon Says Wednesday - Anything Goes
As for you - well you should click on over to Crafty Gals and link up a card. We've got some pretty great sponsors this time around.

Wow, what a whimsical card! I love the brilliant colours you used and man, I sure do wish I had HER hair!! Gorgeous Becca! hugs :)
ReplyDeleteok, see, THAT is totally *my* kind of fancy folding! make something up!!! :) but you are soooo right, this is exactly the correct thing for the image, which is very lovely indeed, especially as expertly colored in by you! love this! so fab and funky! <3
ReplyDeleteNothing, I say nothing, can jazz up a dreary Wednesday like a dab of orange and a splash of hot pinkish purple. Love the design. And by the way - there's a reason you never see fancy folds in my blog either even though I'm not an English major. I'm in the insurance business - I fold a whole lot of paper during office hours :-)
ReplyDeleteWOW! What a gorgeous creation here Becca!! Love the coloring you've done on the image and your lovely fold design too!! She certainly is fancy! :) Thanks for sharing your creation with us at Tuesday Throwdown! HUGS
ReplyDeleteSo, So cool and I love the way you folded this card - so very fun and it just showcases that lovely colored image to its' fullest!! You have done an uber fantastic job on the coloring and the creating of this card - so GOOD FOR YOU!!! You did it - even though you were stumped at first - love that you powered through!!! I admire you so much!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty, Becca, so whimsical! I like how you coloured her - great sentiment too! I don't do many fancy folds either but I like how in typical Becca style you made up a fold of your own - it looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteWell, if you're trying to convince me that you're not the fancy fold queen, you blew it...this is really lovely. Great coloring and clever closure...you really oudid yourself.
ReplyDeleteBecca, she's beautiful! Love your idea of a fancy fold too. I've never even attempted a different fold, but love the way you did this to get all that image on the card. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLynn
She's stunning Becca and you've coloured her beautifully too. You are not the only one - I seriously struggle with anything other than the normal fold and for that I use a scoreboard as I'm not great at that either lol. You are not alone huni and anyways you did come up with an unusual fold and it looks great! Karen xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and so fab card. Love the awesome colors and image. Love it! Thanks for playing along with us at Tuesday Throwdown!

ReplyDeleteohhhh what a great image and quote!! LOVE the colors that you worked with here!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous!! I Love the fun folding you did. I don't usually do techniques like this either because a ruler is NOT my friend. I cannot even draw a straight line with a T square-how pathetic is that? Love the card and the colors you used.
ReplyDeleteLovely image and coloring~
ReplyDeleteGreat story Becca, and your girl is delightful.
ReplyDeleteBecca, this image is perfect for you!! The card you have created is perfect for the image and I love how you have finished off the inside of the card.
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous image and colouring - love your fancy card! Like you, I prefer words to numbers so try to keep any kind of measuring to a minimum :)
ReplyDeleteLove the end result Becca...and I too feel your pain, life's too short for fancy folds lol! Carol x
ReplyDeleteIt's so fun to come over here and get the story behind the card! It's a wonderful card! The fold only enhances this image in this case, great job!
ReplyDeleteI love your interpretation of a fancy fold, mine would be much the same. A good reason I have a large scrap pile too, measuring is not at all my thing. That being said, your card is lovely, gorgeous coloring, layout and I love the sheer black ribbon on the side, it's the perfect finishing touch!
ReplyDeleteSoooo with you on the folding bizzo- but you kicked butt in the end! The girl is beautiful... Great showcase for her!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your card, what a beautiful image.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining us at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge

ME TOO an English major! Usually I add the steps of TRYING to follow a tutorial, and giving up in disgust because somehow measuring turns out differently the second I cut. Harumph. This is a genius fold - and that sentiment. So perfect for that wistful face!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colouring Becca! Love this.
ReplyDeleteYou sell yourself short, Becca! You don't just do every which-way fold whatever whatever! No, you DESIGN a beautiful NEW way to make a fancy fold that doesn't detract from the focus pocus that you have colored beautiful and you tie it up with a bow! Go you!! Hugs, Darnell
