This week at Crafty Gals Corner, we're talking on dots and stripes in style. You can choose to use one or the other in your card and share them with us for some Fantabulous prizes.
As for me, I didn't want any second-class premade polka dots... oh no! I set about making my OWN version of polkies.
I stamped a scrawling script on my card stock base and then used a stencil (Wendy Vecchi Polka Dotty) and some texture paste. I let the dots dry, and then sponged over them with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
I used an image from Bugaboo called Rose Tag and colored it in using some Spectrum Noir Markers (PL2, PL4, PL5) and then I added some die cut leaves. I added stripes around the edges of the tag, too.
Also - a super important thing: I learned how to tie a triple bow thanks to the help of a very handy dandy bow maker that I got from the fabulous Lisa from A Mermaid's Crafts. She's got a tutorial up at her site if you're interested.

On a more personal note: the weekend is over and I'm back from my grandma's estate sale. A big thank you to all of you who left kind comments or sent me happy thoughts. It was... rough... but it's done now. At least I got to go home with her Valentine's Day stamps, which are more than priceless to me.
I'd say ranges of emotion rolled through me... A momentary panic when I saw some stranger with a stamp set that had a scrawling MM down the side, my gram's signature way to keep track of what was hers. And then the happiness as a lady with a handful of music boxes checked out and explained that she was going to put them in piggy banks that she was making for her grandkids - exactly what my gram had done with them...
Again, thank you for all the happy thoughts. I'm sending a ton your way, too! I'm glad you stopped by! Please leave me a comment or follow my blog and I'll try to return the favor!

ReplyDeleteBecca, I'm so glad you are okay after the estate sale. I know it must have been so hard, but knowing that her music boxes will go to such a good use has to be comforting. I'm glad you kept the stamps that mean so much to you.

ReplyDeleteI must've missed the post about the Estate sale....that would be real tough. It's good you got some of her stamps:) I must say, when my Mum sold up their farm [after Dad died]..I simply didn't go home for it! Thinking back, I should have...so I'm glad you did:) And your card. CLASSIC beauty, I reckon - you do this [sorta] shabby chic vintage=ish sooo beautifully!! Love your bow. Clever girl;)!!!

ReplyDeleteOh dear, I missed the post about the estate sales, too. They always beat me up. I'm sure your thoughts were with your Gran while strangers were rummaging through her precious things. The good part is somebody will put them to use and you have some of her treasures now. I know how very special she was to you. Sending warm, positve thoughts your way.

ReplyDeleteFabulous card Becca, love all those layers colors and textures.
ReplyDeleteYour card, with your own-made polkies - is vintage-gorgeous! Layers, textures, colours, details...so much to savour! The bittersweet nature of your trip really strikes a chord with me. We're set to visit my mom the weekend of the 9th/10th and while I so very much want to go, part of me doesn't. I feel badly, but sometimes, returning the 'scene of sadness and loss' is just...well, hard. Anyway, your post carries a strong message: we go to honour those who've passed and to spend time with those still with us. I think I'll be packing my bags after all...
ReplyDeleteHugs~c
